Senior Strategist

Demographica is a marketing agency that helps large B2B companies grow their revenue in Africa by transforming how they engage buyers, grow customers, and enable their marketing and sales teams. We are a mid-sized and we work across a variety of touchpoints in the B2B marketing and purchase journey – from brand positioning to engagement programmes and stakeholder experience projects.

Main purpose of role:

  • To support the Head of StratComms/Strat Director in leading the strategic direction of the business and be actively involved in the development & execution of all strategic plans for clients’ of the agency (existing and new) in a professional, reliable & consistent manner.

Key responsibilities:

  • Development of strategic plans which inform and guide the overall brand communications brief
  • Apply various strategic frameworks to develop strategic communication platforms and go-to-market strategies
  • Presentation of strategies back to C-suite level clients
  • Attend client meetings (as and when required) to support Head of StratComms/HoD to develop long lasting client relationships and become seen as a senior strategic voice of authority/guidance in the agency.
  • Support in the management of agency strategy efforts and projects, involved with projects from start to finish, ensuring successful project completion against deadlines.
  • Develop and manage the strategic direction of the agency’s brand positioning.
  • Develop integrated marketing strategies and tactical plans to meet and exceed clients’ marketing and business goals and objectives.
  • Generate and drive insights for client and agency pieces around media, brands, consumers, and experiences
  • Grow agency proprietary research tools in line with business objectives.
  • Design, execute and oversee research pieces.
  • Manage measurement, analytics, data gathering, and reporting for clients’ and the agency.
  • Provide strategic thought leadership and expertise across client and internal projects.
  • Oversee development of strategic direction through to creative execution
  • Along with the Head of StratComms, to drive a culture of excellence through agency training and skills development.
  • Develop and implement new processes to increase efficiencies and effectiveness of research, measurement, and strategy work for teams.
  • Lead research/insights gathering initiatives and manage outside agency partners.
  • Identify and propose new opportunities to add value to existing clients.
  • Management and development of mid and junior staff.
  • Develop brand strategy into an integrated/Digital experience

  • Work closely with the anthropologists and strat (and team)
  • Gathering key data that ensures considered and well-crafted strategies are constructed.

  • Intimate knowledge of your client always thinking of ways to enhance their brand and drive ROI to their business
  • Exposure to project briefs, budgets and monthly billings
  • Understanding of the B2B production process across all communication channels including print, digital, mobile, activations and DM
  • Participating in briefing and brainstorming sessions

Expected at this level:

  • Demonstrate the critical ability to take information, convert to deep insight and prepare briefs that will inspire creative teams.

  • While rigour and logic are required around the planning process, also constructively challenge not only the internal teams but also the clients/client thinking.

  • Working with methodology that relies heavily on primary research into the target audience and the formulation of human insights that inform our B2B communication strategies.
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team to develop B2B marketing strategies
  • Design and implement B2B marketing strategies aligned with business targets
  • Work with our Anthropologists to develop actionable insights from primary research
  • Ensure a thorough understanding of the production process (timing and execution) and costs in order to maximise agency profitability and client budgets, and understand deadlines and support to ensure timeous delivery of projects
  • Involvement in “pitches” alongside other agency staff in order to win new business for the agency
  • Understanding of client budgets, including profitability, knowledge of targets as well as internal team financial accountability
  • Provide strategic thought leadership and expertise across client and internal projects.

Day-to-Day expectation:

  • Development of strategic plans which inform and guide the overall brand communications brief
  • Support team to enable execution of deliverables to manage day-to-day activities relating to the brief/client expectation
  • Working with Senior strats develop and manage the strategic direction of the campaign/client.
  • Develop (and support) integrated marketing strategies and tactical plans to meet and exceed clients’ marketing and business goals and objectives.
  • Generate and drive insights for client with Anthropologists
  • Ensure regular communication with colleagues
  • Solid understanding of client brand and an eye for detail in terms of standard of completion of projects
  • Grow agency proprietary research tools in line with business objectives.
  • Design, execute and oversee research pieces with Anthropologists and Senior strats
  • Manage measurement, analytics, data gathering, and reporting for clients and the agency.
  • Along with the strategy team, to drive a culture of excellence through agency training and skills development.

Minimum Requirements:

  • An industry relevant qualification in Marketing, Communications or Advertising
  • Alternatively, you have a business Degree or Tertiary Diploma
  • Minimum 6yrs experience working in a Senior strat role in a Brand or Consumer Strat role with at least 2 years on B2B brands or Marketing strategy
  • Understanding of the relevant structures and processes in the agency
  • Experience working in Marketing or Comms role within a B2B environment
  • Strong analytical skills
