Senior Art Director

Demographica is a marketing agency that helps large B2B companies grow their revenue in Africa by transforming how they engage buyers, grow customers, and enable their marketing and sales teams. We are a mid-sized and we work across a variety of touchpoints in the B2B marketing and purchase journey – from brand positioning to engagement programmes and stakeholder experience projects.

Main purpose of role:

Translating the brief and the strategic requirements into a compelling creative solution that is Award winning while exceeding client expectations. This position is expected to conceptualise and work with the strategy communications team including the Anthropologists to produce outstanding award winning B2B creative work within the scope of the brand and creative brief supplied by client

Key responsibilities:

  • Working on creative concept, Art Direction and Designs to produce an effective advertising or marketing campaign
  • Complete work within client deadlines and budgets

  • To ensure smooth running of all internal activities which ultimately result in delivery to client

  • Produce creative work that shows ideation and demonstrates an understanding of strategy
  • Ensure adherence to client/brand CI when producing work
  • Working with team including Copywriter (and Art Director) to ensure creative work produced is on-brief and ahead of deadline
  • Ownership of your role includes: Taking a brief, Conceptualisation, Graphic Design and may include presentation
  • Artwork aligned to client CI and brief/requirements
  • To assist in solving problems
  • Supporting team on projects from inception to completion under their guidance
  • You are required to develop an understanding of the full range of services Demographica offers and be able to work with Centre of Excellence to learn and grow

Additional area of focus:

  • Assuming a mentorship role to grow junior and designers
  • Support Creative Director

  • Manage the execution and set up of repro and print.
  • Design & craft concepts and follow through to the completion of the job whilst maintaining explicit attention to detail and adhering to time scales
  • Give constructive input during a shoot and / or recording if required
  • Keeping up to date with trends & technologies, systems and software
  • Be well organised, by having a professional approach to time, costs and deadlines
  • Understanding of the B2B production process across all communication channels including print, digital, mobile, activations and DM
  • Participating in briefing and brainstorming sessions

Expected at this level:

  • Together with a Copywriter, generate effective, innovative and compelling B2B creative concepts based on sound strategies
  • Understanding and monitoring of timing plans and ensuring no deadlines are missed
  • An understanding of how to achieve and develop creative thinking (support client brief) to achieve clients’ needs – and result in successful, approved creative work
  • Colour correction, Image correction, Sizes & Specs to be checked against brief, Artwork supplied in requested format
  • Systematic approach to each brief
  • Implement direction set by Client Service team, Strat, Ops and Studio Lead
  • Solid interpretation of (and delivery against) design briefs by asking the right questions from the outset
  • You are required to have an understanding to the Client brand and CI
  • Good time-management
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in parallel
  • Ability to communicate clearly via email and in person
  • Understand how to manage integration between various agencies working on the client’s account
  • Understanding of the B2B production process across all communication channels including print, digital, mobile, activations and DM

Day-to-Day expectation:

  • Work on creative projects from the starting point of initiating creative proposals and project plans, through to project completion.
  • Working closely with the (Creative Director), Senior Copywriter and Strat which informs the expectation on the Studio
  • Support Production & Execution in terms of active understanding of the brief, deliverables and timing.
  • Support team to enable execution of deliverables to manage the creative & technical work activities relating to the client requirement/brief
  • To ensure smooth running of all internal activities which ultimately result in delivery to client
  • To assist in solving problems
  • Ensure regular communication between Studio and other CoE (specifically Ops, Production and Client Service)
  • Learn to balance the creative vision and objectives with running an efficient, lean and effective team.
  • Understand and review work (your own and team) and guide colleagues to develop an eye for detail in terms of standard of completion of projects
  • Monitor, check and update all creative work is shared internally on-time and saved in the appropriate place
  • Timings are discussed and agreed to up-front
  • Direct work in any channel towards a high-quality final product
  • Finely craft all work ensuring excellence in layout and typography
  • Manage freelancers/outsourced partners
  • Must be able to work under pressure

Minimum Requirements:

  • An industry relevant qualification in Marketing, Communications or Advertising
  • Alternatively, you have a business Degree or Tertiary practical/technical Diploma/Certificate
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience working in Design, Art Direction or Conceptual creative role

Experience

  • An industry relevant qualification in Design/Visual Communications, Marketing, Communications or Advertising
  • Alternatively, or additionally, you have a business Degree or Tertiary practical/technical Diploma/Certificate
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience working in Design, Art Direction or Conceptual creative role
  • Experience managing at least 2 individuals within the studio environment
  • Working experience in a B2B environment or working on B2B brands
  • Understanding of Adobe Creative Suite Software Applications
