Account Director

Main purpose of role: Responsible for the day-to-day management of internal & external relationships to enable successful management of the client portfolio. (Shaping and driving direction and activity on a given piece of business)

Accountability, management and development of all client relationships whilst building internal relationships as a support to the GAD.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure your position by creating confidence (through delivery and service) in the client and being recognised as the main point of contact whilst building strong client and internal relationships
  • Manage the planning, communication and execution of all client related projects, both internal and external
  • Manage complete function of account (client business) administration, briefs and contact reports.
  • Working with internal Centres of Excellence to deliver from strategy and concept, through to execution, whilst ensuring on-brief and on-budget.
  • Build strong relationships with third party suppliers ensuring accountability for the full delivery of campaigns
  • Full financial accountability, including profitability, for all targets as well as internal team financial accountability
  • Work closely with your GAD and team in order to provide support to the HOD (and the business)
  • Being actively involved with team for briefing, brainstorming sessions and reviews and guidance.
  • You are required to have a thorough understanding of the full range of services Demographica offers and be able to work with Centre of Excellence to strategically and eloquently solve the client’s business problems.

Expected at this level:

  • Write exceptional project and design briefs and ensure same standard of brief execution by supporting team
  • Understand your client requirements and needs, and offer suitable solutions as well as generate new business
  • Managing client expectations, objectives, and timelines.
  • Understanding and navigating the agency and client matrix.
  • Building and maintaining successful mid to senior-level relationships both internally and externally
  • Integration between various agencies working on the client’s account
  • Work with internal team and client to manage goals, deliverables, schedules and budgets by managing the workflow process with support from Production & Execution by prioritising projects and resources and by working to understand capacity to manage client expectation.

Day-to-Day expectation:

  • Execute necessary deliverables to manage day-to-day activities relating to the client account
  • Manage delivery of client briefs through active management of the process, ensuring all is on track
  • Ensure regular communication and manage agency liaison (self & team) with clients 
  • Manage completion of projects at an exceptional standard, to a specific schedule and within an agreed budget
  • Full financial accountability, including profitability, for all targets as well as internal team financial accountability
  • Generate and maintain up-to-date and accurate reports (ensuring all supporting communication is aligned: contact and status reports) and ensure distribution of reports timeously to client
  • Communicate expectation & manage delivery -managing this with internal team continuously
  • Ensure clear understanding of the client’s business requirements and translate this into clear deliverables in order to brief effectively from the outset
  • Drive the adherence to strategy across agency and client

Ownership of role/Going beyond

  • Ensure understanding of the relevant client contract and relevant legal/regulatory guidelines 
  • To constantly drive towards growing the current client portfolio and identify new business opportunities.
  • Work with respect for your leaders and direct reports, building positivity and loyal commitment in your team
  • Ensure thorough knowledge of Demographica business.
  • You will be responsible for working and building relationships with senior members on the client side and report to the GAD or Head of Client Services (HoD).
  • Seek proactive opportunities which will add-value to client
  • Support your colleagues and any direct reports within the agency
  • Work with all departments to provide feedback to support and improve agency operations and delivery on all accounts
  • Adhere to and ensure adherence to company performance and behaviour expectations e.g. timekeeping, timeous completion of timesheets, Company Policies and Procedures etc.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • An industry relevant qualification in Marketing, Communications or Advertising
  • Alternatively, you have a business Degree or Tertiary Diploma
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working as an AD or at a Senior level in agency

 

Experience

 

  • Experience managing 1-2 individuals and independently managing/being accountable (as main point of contact) for at least one account (with senior support)
  • At least 5 years’ having been directly accountable to work with client, liaise and engage on (demonstrating robust understanding a good knowledge) budgets, price quotes/CEs, POs and invoices
  • Understanding of the relevant structures and processes in the agency
